The first document we have relating to Castello is a Parchment dating 1217 Plus the north wing with its stone columns and capitals, and the large reception rooms. There are carved stone symbols crests on the fireplace and other stonework in the villa. On the ground floor are many interesting stone features, a medieval stone archway, stone carvings, flowers and vines in some of the doorframes and fireplace. The first floor has tempera decorated walls and ceilings from 1850, and the 16th century frescoed capella, and the main sitting room floor is made from hand made terracotta tiles . The second floor is traditional Tuscan style, with terracotta floors, stone windows and door frames, and exposed beam ceilings though some rooms have ‘soffiti a casettone’ in chestnut. Also terraced woods that have a mix of fruit trees and the antique ‘chioppi’ terraced vines as the villa used to produce its own wine up until the 1960s. The land is now overgrown but it would be possible to repristine and reintroduce grape vines as the land height produces very good quality grapes. The cellars could also be re used for this purpous or for workshop studios as they have large doors opening onto the outside.
